Kit Check
In a past life, Jonty Brown was a barber. Since 2022, he has been the co-founder of running brand Runlimited. Last October, he opened The Shoe Room by Runlimited, a running store in the City of London.
He puts his stock through its paces — Brown runs an ultramarathon every week. Recently, he took the train over to Luxembourg to support his friend, Deo Kato, a running coach who jogged 13,245km from Cape Town to London over 16 months to raise awareness about the dangers of human migration. Brown wanted to clock up some miles alongside his pal, so he stashed some kit in his overnight bag. Here’s what he packed.
CONCURVE GORE-TEX JACKET
“It’s got a magnet on the back so your hood doesn’t flap around.”
ACCESSORIES
SATISFY PEACESHELL™ CAP,
OAKLEY KATO BLACK SUNGLASSES,
GOREWEAR WINDSTOPPER THERMO GLOVES
PETZL
“I hate running at night, but I’ll wear ahead torch if I do.”
BANDIT SUPERBEAM NEXT GEN 7 POCKET HALF TIGHTS
“It just holds everything that you need: four gels, it also has two pockets on the side for your phone. I'm diabetic, so there’s space for my insulin pump and extra sugars.”
SOAR LONG SLEEVE MERINO & SILK BASE LAYER
“It will last forever because of the material they use. Other tops just tear up after a certain amount of miles and washes.”
MAURTEN GELS
“Fuelling is one of the most important things on any long distance run. You can’t beat Maurten. It has a bit of bicarb in it, which looks after your stomach.”
ADIDAS ADIZERO ADIOS PRO
“These are new and absolutely fire. I don't even know if we've got any left in store. They are flying off the shelves.”
SALOMON ADV SKIN 12
“There is a fear of dropping with type 1 diabetes. I always need to take extra sugar with me and equipment. Plus, water and food. Could be a Tesco’s meal deal or peanut butter and jam sandwiches.”
